ROUND ONCE

3rd April 2017

The second track and second single from Mikey's second album Dreamer, "Round Once", co-composed by Mikey, with lyrics penned by the the album's producer, Music Technology A Level student, Tom Blashford, originally for his school project, is one of Mikey's less pop-orientated compositions. With its Shakespearean-esque lyrics, celebrating the occasion of a birthday ("It's here, it's finally come, another year elapsed"), with the lyric "On April today" referencing the single's release, the experimental folk track - which is slightly more in the vein of Leonard Cohen compared to the more Dylan-esque songs on the album - blends elements of progressive rock with post-punk and new wave-orientated synth-pads.

LYRICS

Written by Tom Blashford

It's here, it's finally come

Another year elapsed

I here by reach out, to whom the wind chimes ring

Wander the fragrant gardens

To rejoice the breaking of the light

Where watching passes

Not notice you

It's only you who sees the truth

It's only you who sees the truth

It's only you who sees the truth

It only comes round once

Whether you know it or not

It only comes round once

Where the world sings along now

To the rising of the sun

It only comes round once

I tell you now

It only comes round once

It only comes round once

On Apri today

There they stood, lost in the mist of sense

Where in honesty we look

And know to rejoice

The coming

And enjoy yourself today

Like I would do, on occasions like this

Now tell me that you're happy

Here you are on a day like this

Knowing it's only just begun

Oh how lovely it is

To see you here

On such a wondrous time

On a fine afternoon like this

It only comes round once

I tell you now

It only comes round once

On April today

Tell me, time and time again

Feel the capture of a smile beaming to us

And have a nice one, my friend

It only comes round once

I tell you now

It only comes round once

I hope you realise

How special you are

To me
