FALLING IN LOVE
10th December 2021
Where before Michael Mikey Brennan paid homage to the sound of the 1960s and 1970s with “She’s My Girl”, which Amy Rae (Noro Blue) compared to the 1978 musical comedy Grease: "I can hear Danny Zuko singing this", the follow-up to the Beatles-esque song came Mikey's second DJ Azza-produced single, "Falling In Love", where Azza explored a whole new different route of dance music compared to his usual modern EDM influences; experimenting with gated reverb, made famous in the '80s by Phil Collins ("In The Air Tonight"), and influences of disco and early house music. While the rhythmic production is rooted within the traditional new wave sound of acts such as Duran Duran and Depeche Mode, the song has a more R&B-infused melody, with Mikey's vocal style channelling the androgynous falsetto styles of Michael Jackson and Prince, and the feminine qualities of Madonna, Cyndi Lauper and Whitney Houston.
